Product Specfic Information : « Search Again How does HushMat Ultra work? Where do I apply HushMat Ultra? Where do I apply HushMat Silencer foam? What is HushMat Quiet Tape? What is HushMat Silencer foam? What is HushMat? Answer: HushMat is a line of vibration damping and sound absorption materials formulated to eliminate vibration caused by road noise, engine noise, structural vibrations, and mobile electronic systems. It's viscoelastic formulation provides outstanding adhesion properties (adhesion is guaranteed!), excellent damping properties across a wide temperature range, is very simple to apply. We are convinced that once you try HushMat you won't want anything else in your installations. Simply peel & stick! back to top ^ How does HushMat Ultra work? Answer: Think of your car as a big balloon. The air inside your car is subject to a variety of energies. Sound pressure is increased by several of these energies. Your mobile electronic system with sub-woofers is a generator of intense sound pressure. Your car structure expands and contracts from the variable sound pressure created. This creates distortion of the sound from your system. The vibrating energy in the sheet metal, metal frame, fiberglass, plastic trim generates this noise/distortion. HushMat Ultra when applied to these surfaces reduce this vibrating energy and eliminate the noise/distortion that it creates. HushMat Ultra eliminate the distortion and enhances the pure sound of your mobile electronic system. back to top ^ What is vibration damping? Answer: Damping is the physics that converts vibrational energy into heat. The HushMat Ultra and Ultra Custom products are designed to dissipate (reduce) this energy and absorb it into the material. This dramatically reduces the vibrational energy and the noise that comes from it. HushMat enhances the pure sound of your driving experience and your mobile electronic system. back to top ^ Where do I apply HushMat Ultra? Answer: HushMat Ultra should be applied liberally to all metal, plastic and fiberglass surfaces that have exposure into the interior cabin of your vehicle. We recommend application in the following order:• all doors, • dash/floor – (behind instrument panel adhere to dash panel, driver floor, driver side rear passenger floor, passenger floor, passenger side rear floor, tunnel, waterfall, rear deck)• trunk (including wheel wells, trunk floor, trunk lid, rear quarter panels, rear deck, spare tire well and rear bumper), • overhead/skin above the headliner. • Bulk - For cost effective do it yourself treatment of your vehicle purchase the HushMat Ultra Bulk Kit. Over fifty eight square feet of material in one kit. Simply peel the HushMat Ultra sheet starting at the shortest straight edge of the sheet and apply following the instructions on the back of each box. back to top ^ Where do I apply HushMat Silencer foam? Answer: HushMat Silencer foam should be applied to the following areas: • back of door trim panels with foam facing outer skin of door• under carpet adhered to HushMat Ultra on dash and floor, • under trunk fabric adhered to resin layer of trunk fabric, • above the headliner adhered to fiber board of headliner, • engine side hood with foam cells facing the engine. back to top ^ What is sound absorption? Answer: Sound absorption is the reduction of airborne noise, such as tire noise on variable road surfaces, wind noise, motor noise, generator noise, dishwasher noise. It is noise not transmitted through a solid structure. HushMat Silencer foam provides excellent sound absorption properties for air-borne noise. back to top ^ What is HushMat Quiet Tape? Answer: HushMat Quiet Tape is an extruded butyl material with excellent adhesion properties. Wire Harnesses and Cables vibrate and rattle in your vehicle. This creates a nuisance noise that distorts your driving experience. It also can cause excessive wear of the wiring system and can lead to electrical problems for your vehicle. Simply peel the 2” x 6” tape off the release paper and bridge over the wire or cable firmly pressing the tape to the application surface. This secures the wire or cable in place and eliminates the need for time consuming and costly mechanical fasteners. back to top ^ What is HushMat Silencer foam? Answer: HushMat Silencer foam is an EPT (ethylene-propylene-terpolymer) material. It consists of EPDM (ethylene-propylene-dienemethylene) foam with an outstanding acrylic or butyl pressure sensitive adhesive laminate on one side. back to top ^ I have problems with competing materials installation at lower than room temperature. What can I do? Answer: HushMat Ultra and HushMat Quiet Tape have been tested to perform at temperatures down to minus 25 degrees Celsius. Adhesion and installation tests prove the strength of this material. Even in cold temperatures simply peel and stick HushMat. Adhesion is guaranteed! You may wish to work in warmer climate but HushMat Ultra and Quiet Tape are formulated to perform in these conditions. back to top ^ What sound reduction can I expect from a HushMat installation? Answer: Our efforts in the North American Automotive Industry have shown dramatic dB reductions. We have reduced interior noise by up to 10 dB. 3-5 dB is readily attained in most installations. We eliminate the vibrational/engine/road noise so you can experience the pure sound of your vehicle and mobile electronic system. It is not uncommon for a vehicle with complete HushMat surface coverage to achieve up to a 15-20 dB reduction in structural vibration generated noise and road noise. back to top ^ What is a dB? Answer: dB stands for decibel. It is the physical measure for sound pressure level (SPL). It is a logarithmic scale. This means a 5 dB SPL reduction requires a 70% reduction in sound power in the noise. A 10dB reduction in SPL requires that the sound power be reduced by a factor of 10! The human ear recognizes a 2-3 dB change in sound pressure. back to top ^ Why doesn't HushMat offer an asphalt or PVC damper like the “other” guys? Answer: Our 15+ years of experience in the automotive industry and history of automotive lab testing indicate that the adhesion properties and acoustic properties of these materials available are inferior. The materials are:• difficult to conform to contoured surfaces, • require solvent cleaning/washing of the surface before installation, • require heating of the material and surface during installation, • market feedback indicates that some even fall off in cold weather!• Time consuming and difficult to handle during installation back to top ^ How can I treat higher temperature “hot spots” on my car? Answer: There are several areas on a vehicle interior that experience above average temperatures. The front of dash, the tunnel, near the header, above the exhaust to name a few. HushMat Ultra Custom comes in dimensions that offer excellent thermal properties. The thicker viscoelastic layer and thicker foil laminate provide an excellent treatment for these difficult application areas. Call or e-mail us and we can provide you with the best material for these applications. HushMat Ultra and Ultra have been tested to perform at up to 400 degrees F. back to top ^ What tools do I need to install HushMat? Answer: Feedback from installers all over the country indicates this as a major competitive advantage for HushMat! You need a pair of gloves, scissors or a utility knife! THAT IS IT! Refer to HushMat installation instructions for step by step easy to follow instruction. back to top ^ We are building a competition/SPL vehicle. What HushMat product is best for this application? Answer: We recommend a combination of each of the HushMat materials. We recommend a liberal installation of HushMat Ultra to treat the structure vibration and thermal areas, HushMat Quiet Tape to secure wire harnesses and cables and HushMat Silencer to address airborne generated noise. For ultimate sound damping performance for high levels of competition treat the entire vehicle with two layers of HushMat Ultra. back to top ^ My License Plate rattles from the heavy bass from my sub-woofer. What can I do? Answer: HushMat Ultra License Plate Kit is designed specifically for this problem. Simply remove the license plate from your vehicle and place the HushMat Ultra sheet on the back of the plate. Trim it if necessary with a pair of scissors. Place the treated license plate and the HushMat frame (included in every License Plate Kit) back on the vehicle. Your problem is solved every time with HushMat. back to top ^ How much HushMat do I need to apply in order to reduce sound? Answer: You can apply HushMat in sheets covering a minimum of 25-30% of the resonating surface. This will have a noticeable affect on road generated and engine generated noise and structural vibration. You can increase the surface coverage to achieve the desired affect.
