About Us RMD, LLC., owner of the Hushmat brand, was created to provide you with the very same product technology used in the worldwide automotive, home appliance and marine industries. Hushmat materials were introduced to North American automobile manufacturers in 1987 and launched on the first production vehicles in 1989. Hushmat materials are specified and used by every automobile manufacturer in the United States, Canada and Mexico. These same materials are now available to you. Our company is built on technology development in the most demanding and complex industrial and consumer environments. Our operation delivers materials daily to over 1500 retail locations and in 25 countries.
The history of acoustics in the automobile dates back to the 1930’s when Henry Ford decided to place carpet on the floor of his vehicles for aesthetics and protection. Little did he know that he was the forerunner of an entire industrial revolution.
In 1988, the foil-constrained layer damping technology was introduced and approved to the industry by General Motors Corporation and began in vehicle production the next year. Today, HushMat Ultra is the only OEM Spec approved damping material available to the automotive do-it-yourself market.
HushMat Ultra is the highest performance and easiest to install vibration damping and thermal insulation material available. The product’s unique properties allow for installation using only two basic tools – hands and scissors. The material is formulated to perform and maintain its flexibility at a wide temperature range of minus 30 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
The HushMat material is tested using the prescribed Society of Automotive Engineers J1637 test. The test was established to provide a standard from which all materials were to be measured. It provides ongoing assurance that with each delivery the customer is receiving a product certified to perform in vehicles as required by its engineering specifications.
HushMat has mastered the complex technology in the automotive acoustics, sealing and thermal insulation categories with advanced product technology that requires:
• no surface preparation, • no acetone or alcohol wash • no heat guns or glue • easily conforms to contoured surfaces • reduces install time by over ½ the time of competitive brands
